Happy New Year everyone, this is Marshall.
Boy, things have gotten crazy in this hobby the last week haven’t they? As ever here at 3rd-O, I’m doing my best to dedicate myself and my work here to enabling and empowering the players, and in case it wasn’t obvious before, reiterate my dedication to Open Gaming.
A lot of people are asking about the OGL, that’s kinda my thing here. Our game is based on our own iteration of 1.0a, so we should legally be fine according to Wizard’s posts. The OGL itself protects assets that cover game mechanics and rules. Sometimes, to publish those you’d have to change the name of something, because the name happens to come from a specific Setting based idea. Our Public Copyright License is designed to cover that kind of stuff too.
The final form of this platform, as I’ve envisioned it will allow you, or anyone to come here, and use Public Open Campaign Settings created by yourselves (or any companies who want to participate) without needing to pay in ANY royalties or be beholden to freelancer gigs. I only want to be able to host (or co-host) any content created using the License for Ad revenue and site metrics. Open Gaming is my passion, and my goal was to share it with all of you.
Fellow Publishers: Welcome! As you can see, I’m in the beginning phases of building the site here, my product is intentionally very malleable, and Setting Agnostic. The Public Copyright enables anyone to use the stuff that isn’t covered by the OGL (meaning Setting Material, proper names, etc.) and write Campaigns or change/create new content that suits their specific needs. You can use existing materials, or create new ones intended specifically to be public access. I hope this is the kind of solution we are all looking for, and I look forward to a bright future of Open Gaming for everyone.
A HUGE update to the SRD is coming; and I am looking forward to an explosive year. Happy Gaming everyone! In case anything has crashed or stopped working, the Google Drive has the most updated form of the game.
